Security Concerns Emerge in Odisha Educational Institutions

Bhubaneswar/Kataka/Puri: Recent incidents involving a bomb explosion at Banki Autonomous College in Kataka district and a suspected blast at Utkal University in Bhubaneswar have raised alarms as the October 15 student union elections approach. Additionally, a firecracker incident at Nimapada College in Puri district has further heightened concerns.

Reports indicate that unidentified individuals threw a bomb near the administration block of Banki Autonomous College on Sunday, resulting in significant damage, including shattered windows, destroyed furniture, and a collapsed wall.

Authorities have initiated an investigation into this incident, which is believed to be connected to the upcoming student elections, although the exact motive remains unclear.

In a separate occurrence, a loud noise at Utkal University on Sunday night prompted a swift response from police, including Bhubaneswar DCP Saravana Vivek M, who assured students that a thorough investigation would be conducted. To maintain order, two platoons of police have been stationed on campus, with more personnel ready to be deployed if necessary.

At the time of reporting, it was still undetermined whether the noise was due to a bomb or firecrackers.

Meanwhile, security measures were intensified at Nimapada College following reports of firecrackers being set off near the college entrance late Saturday night, which led to unrest among students.

Puri Superintendent of Police Prateek Singh visited the college on Sunday evening to assess security protocols, suggesting that the firecrackers may have been used by miscreants to instill fear among students.

Police have been stationed at all college entrances, with two platoons of special forces deployed on-site to ensure safety. The Additional SP and sub-divisional police officer are also present to oversee the situation.
