NCP Leaders in Turmoil After Kishor's Meeting
The recent meeting between leaders of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and political strategist-turned-leader Prashant Kishor has stirred significant unrest within the party and its 'Mahayuti' allies. Following this gathering, speculation has intensified regarding Kishor's intentions to instigate a leadership change within the Maharashtra unit, potentially replacing Sunil Tatkare, the current head of the state unit.
Despite Kishor's recent success with his Jan Suraj Party in the Bihar Bankipur assembly by-election, Tatkare has expressed skepticism about Kishor's appointment as the party's new electoral strategist. He pointed out that Kishor leads his own party, which has only deepened the internal rifts. Tatkare emphasized that the party does not require an electoral strategist, arguing that victories stem from connecting with the public rather than from campaign strategies or advice.
On Thursday, Kishor met with NCP's national president Supriya Sule and her son Parth, a Rajya Sabha MP, while another son, Jay, participated virtually. It is believed that the Pawar family discussed the party's roadmap with Kishor, who suggested that Tatkare be replaced due to insufficient performance as Maharashtra president. In response, Tatkare stated, 'I am not aware of what was discussed. We are practical individuals and do not rely on theory. Honestly, I do not need strategists as I am someone who works on the ground. A visit to a village gives me insight into the people's mood.'
Meanwhile, Kishor's recent interactions with NCP leaders have drawn ire from their ally, the BJP. Kishor has been a vocal critic of the BJP and recently defeated their candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha in the Bankipur assembly by-election. BJP leader and Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule remarked that decisions within their party should be made judiciously, cautioning against actions that could lead to misunderstandings or harm. He stressed the importance of unity among leaders, including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, urging them to avoid conflicts and work collaboratively. 'I trust that Supriya will give this matter the attention it deserves,' he added.
