Israel's Airstrike Claims

Israel has asserted that it successfully targeted and killed Iranian security chief Ali Larijani in a recent airstrike. Additionally, the Israeli military reported that a commander of Iran’s Basij paramilitary force was also eliminated in a separate operation.

As of now, there has been no official response from Iran regarding these allegations.

Escalating Conflict in the Region

This announcement from the Israeli defense ministry follows an attack launched by the United States and Israel on Iran on February 28. In retaliation, Tehran has conducted strikes against Israeli and U.S. military installations in the area, as well as targeting significant urban centers in Gulf nations and various maritime vessels.

India's Diplomatic Efforts

In related developments, India's Ministry of External Affairs has stated that it is in discussions with Iran and other nations to ensure the safe return of Indian vessels from the Strait of Hormuz.

Political Shift in Janata Dal (United)

KC Tyagi, a prominent leader of Janata Dal (United) and former Rajya Sabha MP, has announced his departure from the party. This decision comes just a day after JD(U) leader and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was elected to the Rajya Sabha.

Tyagi indicated that he would not be renewing his membership with JD(U), emphasizing that his relationship with Nitish Kumar remains strong. He expressed his intention to explore new political opportunities in Uttar Pradesh with a different party.

Previously, Tyagi had been serving as a political advisor within JD(U) after being removed from his role as national spokesperson in September 2024. The party had distanced itself from several of his statements, including a recent call for a Bharat Ratna for Kumar.

Controversial Iftar Party in Varanasi

In Varanasi, fourteen individuals were arrested for allegedly offending Hindu religious sentiments after they hosted an iftar party on a boat in the Ganga River, where they consumed chicken biryani.

The complaint was lodged by Rajat Jaiswal, a leader from the Bharatiya Janata Party, who claimed that the group disposed of meat remnants in the river, which is sacred to Hindus.

The arrests followed the circulation of a video on social media showing the event, leading to charges under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to defiling a place of worship and inciting communal discord.

Opposition MPs' Suspension Revoked

The Lok Sabha has lifted the suspension of eight Opposition MPs through a voice vote. These MPs had been suspended in February for the remainder of the Budget Session due to their disruptive behavior, which included tearing up documents and throwing them at the speaker's chair.

The suspended members include Congress MPs Hibi Eden, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Manickam Tagore, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy, Prashant Padole, Dean Kuriakose, and S Venkatesan from the Communist Party of India (Marxist).

Their suspension occurred amid multiple adjournments in the House, which were prompted by protests from the Opposition after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was barred from referencing an excerpt from an unpublished memoir by former Indian Army chief MM Naravane.
