The 27-year-old suspect, identified as Ayyappan, allegedly took his own life on Monday. According to police, the incident occurred at the victim's home in Keezhamangalam village in Kadalur district on Sunday. A police official stated that Ayyappan frequently visited the girl's house for electrical repairs.
Background of the Suspect
During these visits, he developed feelings for the girl. The police reported that he proposed marriage to her multiple times, but she consistently rejected him. At the time of the incident, the girl's mother was away at work in a clothing store.
The Attack
Taking advantage of her mother's absence, Ayyappan entered the house on Sunday while the girl was alone. After she once again declined his proposal, he swiftly attacked her with a knife on her neck and fled the scene. Neighbors, alerted by her screams, rushed to help and called for an ambulance.
Aftermath and Investigation
The girl was transported to a government hospital in Chidambaram, where doctors reported her condition as serious. Following the incident, the Chidambaram Taluk police initiated a search for the fleeing suspect. However, they later discovered that Ayyappan had committed suicide at his home. A senior police officer mentioned that no suicide note was found at the scene.
