Sia Chadha: A Young Advocate for Women's Health

Seventeen-year-old Sia Chadha, hailing from the picturesque Bakrota Hills in Dalhousie, is gaining recognition far beyond her local community. Currently enrolled at Jumeirah English Speaking School in Dubai, she has successfully merged her academic pursuits with significant social initiatives, earning the admiration of her hometown residents who take pride in her accomplishments.

Sia's impactful journey began in the wake of the devastating Turkey–Syria earthquakes in 2023, where she started by creating cloth sanitary pads at her school. This modest initiative blossomed into a global movement, extending its reach to communities in Mozambique and Zambia. By 2024, she established WISH — Women’s Initiative for Sensitization and Health, which addresses two pressing issues:

Eliminating the stigma surrounding breast and cervical cancer.

Tackling bone and muscle health issues faced by women over 40 engaged in strenuous labor.

Through WISH, Sia developed a comprehensive handbook on breast self-examination, featuring illustrations and Hindi translations to ensure it is accessible to women without medical training. Collaborating with the Sukhad Foundation, she organized awareness sessions and health screenings, impacting nearly 200 women in Delhi’s Bhawar Singh Camp by December 2025. Oncologists and general practitioners provided essential cancer education alongside routine health assessments.

Her initiatives have been bolstered by crowdfunding efforts and partnerships with corporate social responsibility (CSR) departments, facilitating educational sponsorships and medical assistance for underprivileged girls. Additionally, her international exposure through academic programs at prestigious institutions like Johns Hopkins University and Cornell University has refined her vision, integrating science with social advocacy.

Looking to the future, Sia aims to expand her outreach to the tribal and remote areas of Himachal Pradesh, focusing on cancer awareness and preventive healthcare. She is also preparing for a legal career, aspiring to merge her legal expertise with grassroots activism.
