Incident in Sirmaur District


Shimla: A teacher has been taken into custody for reportedly sexually harassing 24 female students at a government school located in the Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh, according to police reports released on Monday.


The arrest followed complaints made by students from grades VIII to X, who reported the harassment to the school principal. The school administration subsequently notified the police.


On Friday, the 24 students submitted a formal written complaint to the principal, claiming they had been inappropriately touched by the teacher. This complaint was then escalated to the school's anti-sexual harassment committee, as stated by school officials.


A meeting was convened on Saturday with the parents of the affected students, revealing that many were previously unaware of the harassment their children had endured.


The teacher has been arrested, and a case has been filed against him under Section 75 (sexual harassment) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with applicable sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, according to police sources.
