Targeted Attack Claims Lives of Two Indian Nationals in Italy
Tragic Shooting Incident in Covo, Italy
Late Friday night, two Indian nationals were fatally shot in northern Italy, an incident that authorities believe may have been a deliberate attack. Reports from local media indicate that the shooting occurred in Covo, a town in the Bergamo province. The victims had just left a warehouse that served as a venue for a Vaisakhi celebration when they were targeted. This tragic event has overshadowed the Vaisakhi festivities in the area.
The shooting took place just before midnight in the square outside Gurdwara Mata Sahib Kaur Ji, where members of the Sikh community had gathered to celebrate the festival. According to Italian newspaper La Sicilia, the assailant approached the two men, opened fire, and then fled the scene in a vehicle. A witness mentioned that the shooter was also of Indian descent and was known to frequent the gurdwara.
Investigation into the Motive
The victims have been identified as Raginder Singh and Gurmit Singh, both 48 years old and residents of nearby Agnadello. They were part of the local Indian community. Investigators found approximately ten shell casings at the scene, highlighting the severity of the attack. Initial assessments suggest that this shooting was not a result of a spontaneous conflict, leading authorities to consider the possibility of a 'coldly planned execution' with a premeditated motive.
Additionally, a witness reported that the gunfire also grazed a third individual. An official Vaisakhi celebration was scheduled for Saturday in the vicinity, with participation from local institutions.
