On Thursday, Tampa International Airport (TPA), located in Hillsborough County, Florida, made headlines with a statement addressing the attire of travelers. The airport expressed its discontent with passengers wearing pajamas, declaring it was time to impose a ban. In a lengthy announcement, TPA shared a social media poster stating, "We've seen enough. We've had enough. It's time to ban pajamas at Tampa International Airport." The airport highlighted its previous success in banning Crocs, claiming to be the world’s first Crocs-free airport, and now aimed to tackle the issue of pajamas.

"After successfully banning Crocs and providing everyone with the unique experience of a Crocs-free airport, we now turn our attention to a larger issue: pajamas. At. The. Airport. In the middle of the day," the airport stated.

While acknowledging that this decision might disrupt some travelers, the airport encouraged individuals to have candid conversations with those who might be affected. "We understand this decision could be challenging for some. It’s time to have a tough talk with them. You can do this. We (and Phoebe) believe in you," the airport added. The appeal concluded with a rallying cry: "The madness stops today. The movement starts now. Help Tampa International Airport become the world's first Crocs-free and pajama-free airport. DO YOUR PART. SAY NO TO PAJAMAS AT TPA."

As the news spread, many began to believe that the airport had indeed banned pajamas. However, it was later revealed that the announcement was intended as a joke. Beau Zimmer, a spokesperson for the airport, explained to the media that the post was part of the airport’s playful social media persona, which has been cultivated since its early days on Twitter, now known as X. Zimmer noted, "Our regular social media followers just eat this stuff up. But obviously, this is all in fun, and we encourage our travelers to be comfortable.”

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy responded to the post with a GIF of actor John Krasinski from the TV show “The Office,” expressing his approval.
