Chennai, August 4 - In connection with a controversial double entendre made during a public meeting in Thanjavur regarding the Cauvery issue, Tamil Nadu police took Udayanidhi Stalin, the leader of the opposition in the state assembly, into custody from his residence on Tuesday. This incident follows a contentious statement made by Udayanidhi during a protest by farmers from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on August 3 concerning the Cauvery water dispute.

During the rally, it is alleged that a segment of the crowd mentioned actress Trisha Krishnan, prompting Udayanidhi to make an inappropriate double entendre about her in his speech.

A formal complaint has been lodged with the police regarding this matter. Additionally, the ruling Tamilaga Vetrimaaran Kazhagam (TVK), led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, has filed an official complaint with the National Commission for Women, demanding action against the speech.
