A Remarkable Display of Yoga by Governor RN Ravi

On Saturday morning, Tamil Nadu's Governor, R.N. Ravi, astonished attendees at the International Yoga Day event held at the Velammal Educational Institution in Madurai. Participating alongside over 10,000 students, the 73-year-old governor not only led the yoga session but also showcased an impressive performance that blurred the lines between age and youth.

Dressed in a tracksuit and vest, moving away from traditional formal attire, the governor embraced the day's spirit with remarkable energy that defied his age. Drawing from his background in the Indian Police Service (IPS), he executed each yoga pose with precision and balance. The highlight of the session came when he effortlessly completed 51 push-ups, igniting excitement among the audience.

Before the session commenced, Governor Ravi inspired attendees with his thoughts on the holistic benefits of yoga. He remarked, "Yoga is not merely a physical activity; it is a pathway to self-awareness, mental clarity, emotional balance, and spiritual growth. It is India's invaluable gift to the world." He recalled how, following India's proposal in 2015, the United Nations designated June 21 as International Yoga Day, coinciding with the summer solstice, a date dedicated to the sun, the source of energy for the Earth.

The event in Madurai was part of a larger celebration of yoga across Tamil Nadu. In Chennai, Union Minister L. Murugan participated in a yoga session at the National Siddha Institute, while former Telangana Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan and BJP leader-actress Namitha joined public yoga events in Gudiyatham. Additionally, 500 armed forces personnel practiced yoga together on the coast near INS Adyar, highlighting the extensive participation in this annual celebration.
