Chennai, August 5 - Amid a charged political atmosphere in Tamil Nadu, the state government led by the Tamilga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) is set to unveil its inaugural budget in the assembly on Wednesday. The budget will be presented at 10 AM by the state's Finance Minister, N. Mary Wilson, for the fiscal year 2026-2027.

Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has previously emphasized that this budget should set a precedent. After a thorough review, he has finalized several key announcements considering Tamil Nadu's current financial landscape. There is also a possibility of releasing a vision document titled 'Vettri Tamilgam' (Prosperous Tamil Nadu).

Reports suggest that legislators from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) may boycott the budget session in protest against the arrest of opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin. He was detained in Chennai on Tuesday for allegedly making derogatory remarks about popular actress Trisha Krishnan, which were said to have undermined her dignity. Following interrogation, he was granted bail in Thanjavur.
