On April 17, Chief Minister MK Stalin of Tamil Nadu celebrated the defeat of the Constitution (One Hundred Thirty-First Amendment) Bill, 2026 in the Lok Sabha, labeling it a triumph against the controversial delimitation law. He expressed gratitude to the MPs of the INDIA coalition and female parliamentarians for their roles in defeating the bill. Stalin noted that both the state government and opposition leaders had anticipated this issue nearly a year ago, launching a coordinated protest campaign that included burning copies of the proposed law, which helped generate resistance both publicly and within Parliament.

A Unified Stand Against the Bill

In a video posted on social media, Stalin stated, "I stand before you with joy and renewed energy. Our struggle against the delimitation law has been successful." He emphasized that they had initiated all necessary actions to achieve this victory a year prior, starting with a coordination meeting among chief ministers and opposition leaders. He mentioned raising a black flag and burning a copy of the law just two days ago, declaring, "Let the fire spread," which he claimed had also reached Parliament.

Acknowledgment of Public Support

Stalin credited the people of Tamil Nadu, especially women, for opposing the deceptive attempts to implement this bill under the guise of women's reservation. He expressed appreciation for all opposition MPs who united to challenge the bill. He described the failure of the bill as a significant blow to efforts aimed at dividing the nation and a demonstration of the growing unity among opposition parties. He remarked that this incident marks merely the beginning of the BJP's nationwide failures.

A New Era of Opposition Unity

He further stated that this was the first time in twelve years that a constitutional amendment bill brought forth by Prime Minister Modi's government had failed. "This is just the beginning," he asserted, highlighting it as the start of the BJP's failures across the country and the emergence of unity among opposition parties. He has consistently maintained that if they unite, victory is assured, and this event has proven that point.
