Meeting Between Chief Minister Vijay and MK Stalin
On Monday, Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister Vijay visited the residence of former Chief Minister and DMK leader M.K. Stalin in Chennai.
During this visit, Vijay also met with former Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin. This marked Vijay's first interaction with senior DMK leaders since taking the oath as Chief Minister after the formation of the Tamilga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) government. The meeting took place just a day after the oath-taking ceremony of the newly formed TVK-led government in Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, all members of the state assembly took their oaths as members of the house during the oath-taking ceremony of the Tamil Nadu government led by Tamilga Vetri Kazhagam on Monday.
Key Leaders Sworn In
Among those who took the oath were prominent leaders such as Edappadi K. Palaniswami, O. Panneerselvam, and Udhayanidhi Stalin, along with Tamil Nadu ministers N. Anand, Adhav Arjun, K.G. Arunraj, and K.A. Sengottaiyan. Udhayanidhi Stalin was sworn in as the Leader of the Opposition in the newly formed Tamil Nadu Assembly. Before the proceedings began, he took his designated seat for the opposition leader. Chief Minister Vijay arrived later and greeted Udhayanidhi before the oath-taking ceremony commenced. The event was initiated by the acting speaker M.V. Karuppiah, who welcomed all members to the first session of the 17th Tamil Nadu Assembly. Addressing the assembly in Tamil, Karuppiah expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Vijay for the opportunity to contest elections and thanked the electorate for choosing their representatives.
Inspiration from Historical Leaders
Karuppiah referenced leaders such as Periyar, K. Kamaraj, B.R. Ambedkar, Rani Velu Nachiyar, and Anjalai Ammal, describing them as ideological inspirations for the new government. Following assembly procedures, Chief Minister Vijay first took the oath as the MLA from the Perambur constituency, followed by ministers and other members of the house. Ministers including N. Anand, Adhav Arjun, K.G. Arunraj, K.A. Sengottaiyan, Raj Mohan, C.T. Nirmal Kumar, and Venkataraman also took their oaths as assembly members. Senior leaders like former ministers P.K. Sekhar Babu, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, and O. Panneerselvam also participated in the oath-taking. The recently concluded Tamil Nadu assembly elections saw TVK emerge as the largest party with 108 seats, subsequently forming a government with support from Congress, VCK, left parties, and IUML.
Commitment to Transparent Governance
After taking the oath as Chief Minister, Vijay pledged to establish a "transparent government" and announced that his administration would prioritize education, infrastructure, drinking water facilities, and women's safety. He also signed files approving the provision of 200 units of free electricity and the formation of special task forces to tackle drug-related crimes and ensure women's safety.
