Addressing the Drug Crisis in Tamil Nadu

On Friday, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin addressed a gathering in Tiruchirappalli, emphasizing the urgent need to eradicate the threat of drugs to secure the future of the youth. He urged the central government to implement stringent measures to prevent the influx of narcotics into the country. Speaking at the launch of a solidarity march led by MDMK founder Vaiko, Stalin highlighted the consensus on the necessity of eliminating drugs, which he identified as a significant danger to young people. He acknowledged that while the state government is taking various steps to combat substance abuse, these measures have not yet proven fully effective.

Call for Coordinated Efforts

Stalin pointed out that Tamil Nadu is facing drug trafficking from both other states and foreign countries. He stressed that the resolution of this issue cannot solely rely on the state government. The Chief Minister called on the central government to maintain strict surveillance at ports and other entry points used for drug smuggling into India. He noted that media reports have indicated which ports are being exploited for this illegal trade, and these access points must be blocked. Furthermore, he emphasized the critical need for coordination between the central and state governments to curb the cross-border movement of drugs.

Highlighting Recent Drug Seizures

Stalin referenced the recent seizure of over one lakh pills in Tiruvallur, Vellore, and Ranipet districts. He mentioned that those involved in trafficking were from states like Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Haryana, with some suspects being foreign nationals from Nigeria and Senegal. Describing the drug trade as a vast and organized network, he asserted that it can only be dismantled through collective efforts. He underscored the importance of society's overall role in combating substance abuse.

A Call to Artists and Content Creators

The Chief Minister also appealed to artists and content creators to act responsibly, warning that glorifying drug use could ruin an entire generation. He stated that while it is acceptable to portray the negative effects of drugs, romanticizing drug consumption is perilous.
