Tensions Rise in Tamil Nadu Assembly

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Assembly was thrown into disarray on Tuesday as members of the DMK party demanded the removal of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay's remarks, which were based on documents from the Enforcement Directorate (ED). This led to a series of protests and the eventual eviction of opposition MLAs from the House.

As the session began, DMK Whip E.V. Velu called for the expungement of the Chief Minister's comments regarding ED allegations of corruption, arguing that they violated assembly rules.

Velu also contested references to the Sarkaria Commission, asserting that no offenses had been established.

In defense, Law Minister R. Nirmal Kumar supported the Chief Minister's statements, citing the Sarkaria Commission report and ED documents, while reiterating claims of corruption linked to the previous DMK administration.

The DMK members strongly opposed this defense.

When Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar ruled against the expungement of the Chief Minister's statements, DMK MLAs escalated their protests with loud slogans.

A group of DMK MLAs gathered near the Speaker's podium, insisting on their demands and continuing their chants.

Leader of the House K.A. Sengottaiyan called for disciplinary action against the protesting members in accordance with assembly regulations.

Ultimately, the Speaker instructed the marshals to remove the disruptive MLAs, a directive that was promptly executed.

Even as they were escorted out of the assembly, DMK MLAs persisted in their slogan-shouting.
