Taiwan's Strong Response to Chinese Military Exercises

Taipei, Dec 29: Taiwan's Ministry of Defence has issued a strong condemnation regarding China's recent military exercises involving air, naval, and rocket forces around the island. Beijing has characterized these drills as a serious warning against what it terms "Taiwan Independence" separatist movements and foreign interference.

The Ministry has declared that its forces are on high alert and has denounced the actions of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), asserting that such maneuvers threaten regional stability.

This escalation follows the United States' approval of a substantial arms deal exceeding $10 billion for Taiwan. In response, Beijing has urged the US to "immediately halt its reckless arming of Taiwan," with China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stating that this action "seriously undermines China's sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity."

“We strongly condemn the PRC’s irrational provocations and oppose the PLA’s actions that undermine regional peace. Rapid Response Exercises are underway, with forces on high alert to defend the Republic of China and protect our people,” Taiwan’s Defence Ministry stated on X.

On Monday morning, the Ministry of Defence reported the detection of two PLA aircraft, nine PLA ships, and two government vessels, indicating ongoing military activities in the Taiwan Strait.

It further noted that Taiwanese armed forces are vigilantly monitoring the situation and are prepared to respond using aircraft, naval vessels, and shore-based missile systems.

Additionally, Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry has criticized the military actions of China and reaffirmed its support for its armed forces in light of these provocations.

“We stand united with the Ministry of National Defence and all frontline members of the armed forces in responding to the PLA provocations around Taiwan. We condemn the CCP's threats to regional and global peace, stability, and prosperity, and we will meet these challenges with preparedness, alongside our democratic partners,” the Taiwanese Foreign Ministry posted on X.

Earlier this month, the Taiwanese Foreign Ministry stated, “China’s unilateral military provocations and suppressive actions threaten Taiwan’s democracy and freedom, as well as the regional status quo of peace and stability. They also destabilize the overall situation in the Indo-Pacific.”

Taiwan continues to confront threats from China, which claims the self-governing island as part of its territory under the "One China" principle and insists on its reunification with Beijing. Despite these pressures, Taiwan, bolstered by significant public support, remains steadfast in asserting its sovereignty and responding to incursions from China.
