Pune, May 8: In a landmark move for child protection, the Loni Kalbhor Police in Pune, Maharashtra, apprehended a suspect within a day of an assault on a six-year-old girl and promptly filed a charge sheet in court.
The alarming incident took place in Theur, located in Haveli Taluka. Reports indicate that the accused, 46-year-old Shridhar Limbaji Kamble, enticed the young girl, who was playing nearby, with food. Taking advantage of her innocence, he allegedly committed the assault. The child's mother acted swiftly, filing a complaint at the Loni Kalbhor Police Station as soon as she learned of the incident.
Understanding the seriousness of the situation and the victim's young age, law enforcement launched an immediate search. Officers quickly located Kamble at his hideout and arrested him without delay.
A case has been registered under Section 74 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, along with Sections 8 and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. In a remarkable effort to expedite justice, the investigative team gathered evidence and submitted the charge sheet to the court within just one day, ensuring the accused would face legal consequences swiftly.
This rapid response comes in the wake of a disturbing incident in Pune district involving a separate case of extreme violence. A 65-year-old man, Bhimrao Kamble, has been accused of the sexual assault and murder of a three-year-old girl, which has sent shockwaves through the community.
A preliminary post-mortem report from Sassoon General Hospital has revealed shocking details about the crime. It is reported that during the assault, the accused stuffed a cloth sock into the girl's mouth, leading to her death by suffocation and severe physical abuse, as indicated in the findings submitted to the police.
