Suvendu Adhikari's Commitment to Serve All

On Monday, West Bengal's newly appointed Chief Minister, Suvendu Adhikari, participated in his inaugural cabinet meeting held on the 14th floor of Nabanna Bhavan. During this meeting, he pledged to work for everyone and announced six significant decisions made by his government. As the first Chief Minister from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Adhikari noted that West Bengal witnessed elections free from any crises or fears for the first time. He expressed gratitude towards the public and the Election Commission (EC), as well as appreciation for the party workers, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), observers, and both the West Bengal and Kolkata police.

Adhikari emphasized, "We will work for everyone... People have sacrificed their lives, and we will always remember them... We will ensure justice for them and take responsibility." He formally approved the transfer of 600 acres of land to the Border Security Force (BSF) for fencing along the border with Bangladesh, stating that the land would be handed over within 45 days. The cabinet has already passed a resolution regarding this matter, and reports indicate that the Chief Secretary and the Secretary of Land and Revenue have been tasked with overseeing this swift transfer.

Cabinet Approves Key Proposals

The Chief Minister also revealed that the cabinet has approved a proposal to extend the age limit for job applicants in schools by five years, fulfilling a promise made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the election campaign. Furthermore, Adhikari mentioned that the cabinet has authorized the Chief Secretary to initiate training for national and state cadre officials by the central government. He accused the previous Trinamool Congress government of violating the constitution by not implementing the Indian Justice Code (BNS) and announced that the cabinet has decided to enforce new criminal laws in the state. He pointed out that the former government ignored the June 2025 circular from the Home Ministry regarding the census, and the West Bengal cabinet has granted approval for its immediate implementation.
