On Friday, Suvendu Adhikari, the future Chief Minister of West Bengal, met with Governor R.N. Ravi to present his claim for forming the state's first BJP-led government. This meeting occurred just hours after he was elected as the leader of the legislative party in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Adhikari, representing the BJP which secured 207 seats in the 294-member assembly, is set to take his oath at the Brigade Parade Ground on Saturday. Commenting on Adhikari's oath-taking, BJP leader Dilip Ghosh stated, "West Bengal is about to make history... Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP government will realize the vision of a 'New Bengal.'"
Uttarakhand CM Joins the Ceremony
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami arrived in Kolkata on Saturday to participate in the oath-taking ceremony of the new BJP government. BJP leaders welcomed Dhami at the airport ahead of the event where Suvendu Adhikari will take the oath of office.
Nishith Pramanik to Take Oath as Minister
Former Union Minister Nishith Pramanik will also take the oath of office alongside Suvendu Adhikari and senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh. Pramanik, a well-known figure in North Bengal, contested the assembly elections from the Mathabhanga seat in Cooch Behar and is regarded as a significant leader in the region. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also arrived in Kolkata to attend the ceremony.
A New Era Begins with 'Sonar Bangla'
Before taking the oath, Suvendu Adhikari welcomed Prime Minister Modi in Kolkata, describing the moment as "a moment of immense pride and joy." In a post on X, he remarked that the oath-taking ceremony of the BJP government, the first in West Bengal since independence, fulfills the dreams of the party's founders.
Claiming that this event symbolizes the "end of decades of misgovernance," Adhikari stated that a new era of development, peace, and prosperity is beginning in the state with a "double engine" of growth. Welcoming the Prime Minister to the "City of Joy," he declared, "The era of 'Sonar Bangla' has officially begun."
