Surya Kumar Yadav's Coach Optimistic About India's T20 World Cup Semifinal Success
Confidence in Victory
Ashok Aswalkar, the childhood coach of Indian men's T20I captain Surya Kumar Yadav, expressed strong optimism regarding India's chances in the upcoming T20 World Cup semifinal against England, set to take place at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.
The defending champions, India, secured their spot in the semifinals with a decisive five-wicket victory over the West Indies.
Positive Outlook from the Coach
Aswalkar stated, "I am confident that India will win. The last match against the West Indies was crucial for us, and now that we have overcome that challenge, I believe the path ahead will be smoother."
He noted that while the team has not yet delivered a flawless performance across batting, bowling, and fielding, the players are now mentally relieved after qualifying for the semifinals.
Addressing Bowling Concerns
"Our batting lineup is strong. The primary concern has been our bowling, which was under pressure. However, with the semifinal qualification, that pressure has lifted, allowing players to perform to the best of their abilities," Aswalkar added.
Advice for Surya Kumar
Aswalkar also offered guidance to Surya Kumar, who has faced challenges in scoring runs throughout the tournament, except for his unbeaten 84 against the USA.
"I always tell him to focus on his game. If he keeps altering his approach, it won't yield results. He should aim to build his innings, starting with singles or doubles, as he has the ability to score quickly once settled," he advised.
Commending Sanju Samson
Aswalkar praised Sanju Samson for his outstanding performance against the West Indies, which was pivotal in reaching the semifinals.
"Sanju's batting was exceptional. I had predicted his inclusion in the World Cup team and his ability to score runs, so I was thrilled when he delivered in the match against the West Indies," he remarked.
