Surge in Infiltration Attempts at India-Bangladesh Border Revealed
Infiltration Data Highlights Concerns
The Union home ministry disclosed that the India-Bangladesh border has seen the most infiltration attempts and arrests compared to other land borders, as reported to the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
In response to inquiries from Trinamool Congress MPs Jagdish Chandra Barma Basunia and Sharmila Sarkar, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai provided detailed statistics regarding infiltration attempts and arrests along India's borders with Bangladesh, China, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, and Myanmar.
According to the data, from January to November, there were 1,104 detected infiltration attempts along the 4,096.70-km India-Bangladesh border, resulting in the arrest of 2,556 individuals for allegedly trying to enter India without proper documentation.
Since 2014, security forces have identified over 8,500 infiltration attempts across all of India's borders, leading to more than 20,800 arrests, with the majority occurring at the India-Bangladesh border.
From 2014 to 2024, the Bangladesh border alone recorded 7,528 infiltration attempts and 18,851 arrests, according to the minister's reply.
Additionally, the report indicated that there have been no infiltration incidents reported along the India-China border since 2014.
On the 2,289.66-km India-Pakistan border, approximately 420 infiltration attempts have been noted since 2014, with around 560 arrests made.
Furthermore, the India-Myanmar border has seen over 290 infiltration attempts and nearly 1,150 arrests during the same timeframe, while the India-Nepal and India-Bhutan borders collectively recorded close to 160 infiltration attempts and about 260 arrests.
