Surat to Host 89th Fit India Sundays Cycling Event Promoting Drug-Free Youth

The upcoming 89th Fit India Sundays on Cycle event in Surat, scheduled for September 6, aims to promote a drug-free lifestyle among the youth. With the theme 'Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat', this initiative encourages fitness and community participation. Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will lead the event, which features a cycling route starting from Sardar Patel Statue and ending at Sarthana Zoo. Notable athletes will also join the cause, reinforcing the message of health and discipline. This event is part of a larger campaign addressing substance abuse in the country.
 

Fit India Sundays Cycling Event in Surat

The 89th installment of Fit India Sundays on Cycle is set to take place in Surat on September 6, focusing on the theme 'Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat'. This initiative aims to promote fitness, sports, and community engagement to foster a healthy, drug-free youth. Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, will spearhead the cycling event, joined by Gujarat's Deputy Chief Minister, Harsh Sanghvi, as stated in a press release from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.


Promoting a Drug-Free Lifestyle

Mansukh Mandaviya emphasized the importance of this event, stating, 'In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for a drug-free youth, this edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle aims to inspire young individuals to reject drugs and adopt a healthy, active lifestyle. Through initiatives like Sundays on Cycle, Fit India is nurturing a generation that is healthy, self-assured, disciplined, and dedicated to the development of a Viksit Bharat.'


Event Route and Campaign Overview

During his Independence Day address from the Red Fort, PM Modi underscored the issue of drug abuse as a significant challenge facing the nation and its youth. This 89th edition is part of the 100-week nationwide Jan Bhagidari campaign under the 'Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan', which aims to create a lasting movement against substance abuse through sports, fitness, awareness, and community involvement. The cycling event will kick off at 6:00 AM from the Sardar Patel Statue at Mangadh Chowk, traverse Mini Bazaar and Varachha Main Road, and conclude at Sarthana Zoo.


Participation of Notable Athletes

The event will also see participation from distinguished athletes, including Padma Shri Olympian Achanta Sharath Kamal, Arjuna Awardee Sarita Mor, wrestler Shivani Pawar, and Commonwealth medallist Rahul Mann.
