Supreme Court to Review NEET Exam Conduct Amid Cybersecurity Concerns

Supreme Court's Focus on NEET Examination

New Delhi: The Supreme Court announced on Monday that it will consider recommendations from a high-powered task force led by Nandan Nilekani regarding the online administration of the NEET examination.

Justices PS Narasimha and Alok Aradhe emphasized the need for innovative solutions, particularly as the examination shifts from a traditional format to an online one.

The court highlighted the necessity for enhanced measures concerning cybersecurity and the protection of databases.

This discussion arose during the hearing of a petition by RJD MP Sudhakar Singh, which followed the cancellation of the NEET-UG exam conducted on May 3 due to allegations of a paper leak, leading to the announcement of a re-examination.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the government, informed the court that the Union government is taking the situation very seriously and has established a high-level committee.

Mehta noted that the Prime Minister himself announced the formation of this committee, which is chaired by Nilekani, a recognized technology expert.

The task force also includes notable figures such as former ISRO chairman S Somanath, ex-Intelligence Bureau director Tapan Deka, IIT Chennai director V Kamakoti, former education secretary Anita Karwal, and logistics specialist Amrit Lal Meena.

The court scheduled the next hearing of Singh's petition for Monday, August 3.

On June 1, the Supreme Court declined to expedite Singh's request for the NEET-UG 2026 re-test to be conducted on June 21 in a computer-based format.

Following the cancellation of the NEET-UG on May 12 due to the paper leak allegations, the CBI is currently investigating the incident, and the retest is set for June 21.
