Supreme Court's Directive for Timely Judgments

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has emphasized the detrimental effects of delays on litigants, instructing high courts nationwide to issue judgments within a three-month timeframe after reserving orders.

Highlighting the urgency for quicker resolutions in matters concerning personal liberty, a bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Baghchi mandated that decisions on bail applications should be delivered on the same day. If a decision is reserved, it must be announced and made available by the following day.

In a series of directives, the apex court stated that any bail or sentence suspension orders should be promptly communicated to prison authorities upon issuance, ensuring that the release of undertrials or convicts occurs preferably on the same day or, at the latest, the next day.
