The Supreme Court has granted a nine-month extension for the trial of the Sheena Bora murder case, emphasizing that no further extensions will be permitted. Indrani Mukerjea, the prime accused and mother of the victim, has been allowed to apply for permission to travel abroad. The case, which involves multiple accused including Indrani and her ex-husband Peter Mukerjea, has garnered significant media attention since its revelation in 2015. The trial's timeline is now set to conclude within this new period, as the court seeks to expedite the legal proceedings.

Supreme Court's Decision on Sheena Bora Case

On March 18, the Supreme Court of India has approved an additional nine months for the trial concerning the high-profile Sheena Bora murder case. The court emphasized that no further extensions will be granted.

A bench led by Justices MM Sundresh and N Kotiswar Singh issued this order after receiving a request from the Special Judge at the CBI, City Civil and Sessions Court in Greater Bombay, for more time to finalize the trial.

"In light of the request, the trial period has been extended by nine months, with a clear indication that no additional requests for time extensions will be accepted," stated the bench in its ruling dated March 16.

Furthermore, the court has allowed Indrani Mukerjea, the mother of Sheena Bora and the main accused, to submit a new application for permission to travel abroad.

Peter Mukerjea, Indrani's former husband, is also implicated in the case as a co-accused.

Sheena Bora, aged 24, was reportedly murdered in a vehicle by Indrani Mukerjea, her driver Shyamvar Rai (who later became an approver), and Khanna in April 2012.

According to police reports, her remains were incinerated and disposed of in a forest area in Raigad.

The murder was uncovered in 2015 when Rai disclosed details following his arrest in a separate case.

Indrani and Khanna were taken into custody in August 2015, while Peter was arrested three months later. Currently, all accused individuals are out on bail.
