Supreme Court's Stance on Misinformation

New Delhi: On Friday, the Supreme Court declined to consider a request aimed at initiating action against those accused of disseminating false information regarding the Tirumala laddu issue through posters or public remarks.

Previously, on October 4, 2024, the Supreme Court established a five-member independent Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate claims regarding the use of animal fat in the preparation of Tirupati laddus, emphasizing the need to address the concerns of millions.

The court clarified that it should not be utilized as a platform for political disputes.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi noted that a criminal case has already been filed, and the investigation is currently underway.

The bench also mentioned that the petitioner or any other concerned individual is welcome to provide any relevant information to the investigative agency to aid in reaching a conclusive outcome.
