Supreme Court's Decision on Asaram's Bail Request

On Thursday, the Supreme Court rejected the interim bail plea of Asaram, who has claimed to be a divine figure. He is currently serving a life sentence for the sexual assault of a minor that occurred in 2013. The court permitted Asaram to have a trained caretaker of his choice for 24 hours of medical assistance, stating that he could return to court if his health deteriorates. Justices M.M. Sundresh and P.B. Varale reviewed a report from AIIMS dated July 31, which indicated that while hospitalization was not necessary, ongoing medical support was essential for Asaram.

Court's Instructions on Medical Care

In response to Solicitor General Tushar Mehta's assurance that the recommendations from the AIIMS report would be followed 'completely and in good faith,' the bench ordered that Asaram could utilize the services of his chosen trained caretaker around the clock. The bench acknowledged the letter from AIIMS dated July 31, 2026, and emphasized that the petitioner would be allowed to receive 24-hour assistance from a caretaker of his preference. Furthermore, the court mentioned that should Asaram's medical condition worsen, he could reapply for bail.
