Supreme Court Postpones Hearing on 'Udaipur Files'
The Supreme Court has postponed the hearing regarding the release of the film 'Udaipur Files' on Wednesday, awaiting the outcome of a review petition presented before a committee established by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The next hearing for this case is scheduled for Monday. The committee will convene at 2:30 PM on Wednesday. The court also instructed that objections raised against the film, created by accused Mohammad Javed, be addressed, urging the committee to make a decision on the matter 'immediately.'
The court has granted permission for the filmmakers and the victim's son, Kanhaiya Lal, to contact the police and seek protection if they feel threatened.
'Udaipur Files' is based on the murder of tailor Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur, Rajasthan, which allegedly occurred due to a social media post supporting comments made by former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma about Prophet Muhammad. Mohammad Javed, the eighth accused in the case, filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking a halt to the film's release until the trial concludes. The film was initially set to premiere in theaters on July 11.
