Supreme Court Calls for Accountability in NEET Paper Leak Controversy
Supreme Court Addresses NEET Paper Leak Concerns
New Delhi: On Friday, the Supreme Court emphasized the need for accountability regarding the NEET paper leak incident, highlighting the emotional toll it takes on both students and their families.
During the proceedings, Justices P S Narasimha and Alok Aradhe expressed that disappointing the youth is not an option, as they reviewed various petitions, including one advocating for the restructuring of the National Testing Agency (NTA) into a more robust and independent organization for conducting medical entrance exams.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta reassured the court that the government is taking the youth's concerns seriously, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally overseeing the situation to ensure no gaps remain.
The bench remarked, "Real accountability is essential to prevent such issues from recurring," stressing the traumatic impact of such incidents on students and their families, who invest significant emotional energy into their education.
Mehta informed the court that new measures have been implemented for the NEET-UG re-test, which is set for June 21.
The court has requested the Centre to submit an affidavit regarding the matter and has scheduled the next hearing for the second week of July.
Previously, on May 12, the NTA annulled the NEET exam conducted on May 3 due to allegations of a paper leak, with a re-examination planned for June 21.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is currently investigating the allegations surrounding the paper leak.
It is worth noting that after the NEET-UG questions were reportedly leaked in 2024, the Supreme Court opted not to cancel the exam but issued several directives aimed at preventing future leaks and establishing criteria for the cancellation of public examinations.
