Supreme Court's Stance on Child Trafficking

In response to the alarming situation regarding child trafficking and sexual exploitation in the country, the Supreme Court emphasized on Friday that the testimonies of victims, particularly minors, should be given significant weight and credibility.

The bench, comprising Justice Manoj Mishra and Justice Joymalya Bagchi, stated that when evaluating the evidence of a minor victim of trafficking, courts must consider the underlying socio-economic and sometimes cultural vulnerabilities, especially if the individual belongs to marginalized or socially disadvantaged communities.

These remarks were made during the hearing of a case related to the trafficking of girls. The apex court asserted that the judicial assessment of victims' testimonies should be conducted with sensitivity and realism.
