A critically ill individual from the isolated Bara Bhangal area in Kangra district has been successfully rescued and is currently receiving treatment at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College & Hospital, Chamba.

The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) of Kangra, along with the Deputy Commissioner, alerted Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Bharmour, Vikas Sharma, regarding the urgent situation. Due to severe weather, helicopter services were not an option, necessitating a ground rescue operation.

Under the leadership of ADM Sharma, a specialized mountaineering rescue team consisting of 13 members, led by instructor Pankaj Mahant, departed from Bharmour on July 18, 2026. Despite facing challenging terrain and adverse weather conditions, the team reached the patient that same night. On July 19, the patient was carefully transported on a stretcher through rugged mountain paths, and by late evening, he arrived safely at Dharadi, where an ambulance awaited. He was then swiftly taken to the Chamba hospital for urgent medical attention.

Officials commended the bravery, commitment, and teamwork displayed by the rescue team, whose tireless efforts ensured that the patient received timely medical care. This operation showcased the effective collaboration between the Bharmour Disaster Management Authority, Chamba district administration, health services, and support personnel, exemplifying quick decision-making and dedication to public service.
