Successful High-Speed Testing of Indigenous Vande Bharat Sleeper Train
Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Achieves Milestone
The Indian Railways has successfully conducted the final high-speed test of the domestically designed and manufactured Vande Bharat sleeper train under the supervision of the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS). This test took place on the Kota-Nagda section, where the train reached a maximum speed of 180 km/h, marking a significant achievement in India's journey towards advanced and self-reliant rail technology. During the testing phase, a comprehensive technical evaluation was performed, assessing various parameters such as ride stability, oscillation, vibration behavior, braking performance, emergency braking systems, safety features, and other critical metrics. The train's performance at high speeds was found to be entirely satisfactory, leading the CRS to declare the test a success.
Minister Shares Test Highlights
Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Minister of Railways, Communications, and Electronics & Information Technology, shared a video on social media showcasing the successful CRS test of the Vande Bharat sleeper train at 180 km/h on the Kota-Nagda route. The video also demonstrated the stability of water-filled glasses, which remained steady even at high speeds, highlighting the train's superior ride quality, enhanced suspension, and technical robustness.
Innovative Features of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train
The Vande Bharat sleeper train, equipped with 16 coaches, is designed for long-distance passenger travel and boasts state-of-the-art amenities. These include comfortable sleeper berths, advanced suspension systems, automatic doors, modern toilets, fire safety and monitoring systems, CCTV surveillance, a digital passenger information system, and energy-efficient technologies. The aim of these features is to provide passengers with a safe, comfortable, and world-class travel experience.
Enhanced Safety and Comfort Features
The Vande Bharat sleeper trains incorporate significant technological advancements and safety features, including crash-proof and jerk-free semi-permanent couplers, anti-climber mechanisms, fire barrier doors at each coach's end, improved fire safety measures, and aerosol-based fire detection and suppression systems in electrical cabinets and toilets. Additionally, the train is equipped with a regenerative braking system for energy efficiency, UV-C lamp-based disinfection systems in air conditioning units, centrally controlled automatic plug doors, fully sealed wide corridors, CCTV in all coaches, and emergency talk-back units for communication between passengers and train managers or locomotive pilots during emergencies. Special toilets for differently-abled passengers, centralized monitoring systems for passenger facilities, and ergonomically designed stairs for easy access to upper berths are also included.
