Demonstration Against Exam Irregularities
On Friday, students and job seekers gathered in Lucknow to protest against alleged irregularities in examinations. Led by Abhijit Dipke, the founder of the 'Cockroach People's Party' (CJP), the demonstrators called for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Candidates preparing for various government recruitment exams, including teaching, medical, revenue, and administrative positions, assembled at Eco Garden from early morning.
This protest is part of a nationwide campaign initiated by CJP, which has already seen demonstrations in Delhi and Pune. Bablu Kumar, the Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), stated that permission for the event was granted after an individual, rather than an organization, applied. He mentioned that a teacher named Vivek Kumar submitted the application late Thursday evening, and after completing the necessary procedures, the permission was granted.
Kumar also dismissed reports claiming that the police had denied permission for the protest, clarifying that no application related to the demonstration had been received until Thursday evening. According to police, the protest is authorized from 10 AM to 4 PM, with an expected turnout of around 1,000 participants. Previously, Dipke had expressed concerns about the alleged irregularities in the exams, emphasizing that the protest would be conducted peacefully and constitutionally.
He noted that peaceful protests had already taken place in Delhi and Pune, asserting that they were not doing anything wrong but merely wanted to voice their concerns within a democratic framework. CJP plans to hold similar protests in Amritsar and Bengaluru before returning for a major demonstration at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on June 20.
