Intensifying Protests in Jharkhand Over Exam Irregularities

In Jharkhand, protests by students regarding alleged irregularities and fraud in the JPSC (Jharkhand Public Service Commission) and JSSC (Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission) examinations are escalating. Sunday marked the fifth day of this movement. Meanwhile, Abhijit Dipke, founder of the 'Cockroach People’s Party' (CJP), along with the opposition party BJP, has openly supported the demonstrators' demands, putting the government led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren under scrutiny.

Dipke expressed his solidarity with the students on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "I have spoken with students protesting against the discrepancies in the JPSC and JSSC recruitment exams. CJP stands with all students in Jharkhand and supports their demands."

Students Demand CBI Investigation

Hundreds of students are protesting in Jharkhand over alleged discrepancies in competitive exams. On Sunday, the protests entered their fifth day. The demonstrators have voiced their distrust in the CID (Criminal Investigation Department) investigation and are calling for a CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) probe.

They are demanding accountability and have stated that their movement will persist until the state government addresses their concerns. However, they fear that the entire investigation could be 'suppressed,' which is why they are insisting on a central agency's involvement.

Lack of Government Response

The students have also claimed that no officials have reached out to them despite the ongoing protests. They have criticized Chief Minister Hemant Soren's administration.

Shyam Bihari Gupta, a student from Balumath in Latehar district, told a news agency, "The state government is still asleep. We are receiving support from across the country. People from various cities are sending food and supplies to the protest site. We are grateful to those who are helping us continue our demonstration."

BJP Criticizes Government's Handling of Protests

In the meantime, the BJP has targeted the JMM regarding the protests and has demanded Soren's resignation, as he oversees the school education and literacy department.

BJP's Amar Kumar Bauri stated, "Instead of resolving issues, the government is attempting to suppress the movement, denying permission for protests, and trying to create divisions among students. We demand an immediate CBI investigation to address the students' primary concerns. Just as Dharmendra Pradhan had to resign on moral grounds, Chief Minister Hemant Soren should also take moral responsibility for these irregularities and resign from his position."
