Ongoing Student Protests in Jharkhand

In Jharkhand, student protests against alleged irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC recruitment exams persisted on Wednesday. Opposition leader Babulal Marandi met with student leader Devendra Nath Mahto in Ranchi, who is currently on an indefinite hunger strike. Marandi stated that the assembly session is set to commence tomorrow, and students have been protesting for several days. He mentioned that students have approached him personally, expressing their belief that these issues are not mere mistakes but indicative of job sales in Jharkhand, with substantial evidence to support this claim.

Calls for Investigation and Exam Cancellation

Marandi asserted that during a multi-party meeting today, he emphasized the need for the government to annul the exams in light of these irregularities. He called for a CBI investigation into the matter. The Speaker has indicated that this issue will be discussed in the meeting, leading to a decision. The students' demands are valid, and our party fully supports the students of Jharkhand. BJP MLA Naveen Jaiswal mentioned that the assembly session is starting tomorrow, August 6, and an NDA legislative meeting is scheduled for 6 PM today. Prior to this meeting, all BJP-NDA legislators, led by Marandi, visited the protesting students.

Concerns Over Job Fixing

The BJP MLA noted that they listened to the students, who detailed their concerns. He pointed out that this issue extends beyond just a paper leak; it involves 'fixing jobs' under the direction of the state government and Chief Minister Hemant Soren. Consequently, they are demanding the cancellation of the JPSC 14th exam and have called for a CBI inquiry. He questioned why the central education minister resigned in Delhi but not in this case, asserting that there is no moral right to remain in office.

Solidarity from Social Activists

Social activist Sonam Wangchuk engaged with Devendra Nath Mahto, who is on a hunger strike protesting the alleged irregularities in Jharkhand's recruitment exams, urging him to drink water. Responding to Wangchuk's appeal, Mahto consumed water on the fourth day of his fast. Meanwhile, five others began their indefinite hunger strike under the banner of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) Reform Forum on Tuesday night. The protests have intensified ahead of the monsoon session of the assembly starting Thursday.
