Government Response to Tragic Fire Incident
On June 23, the Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Brajesh Pathak, announced that stringent measures are being taken against those responsible for the deadly fire in the Aliganj area of Lucknow, which resulted in the loss of 15 lives. He confirmed that four individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident, and several officials have been suspended. Pathak stated that since last night, four arrests have been made, and some officials have faced suspension. He emphasized that strict actions will be implemented based on the SIT report, ensuring that no one will be spared.
Calls for Accountability and Improved Safety Measures
Congress MP J.B. Mathur expressed concern over the recurrence of such incidents and urged for accountability and the enforcement of better safety regulations. He remarked that it is unfortunate that these events keep happening, citing similar occurrences in Delhi and now in Lucknow. Mathur questioned the existing systems in place to monitor such incidents and insisted that the government must investigate the failures and take decisive actions to prevent future occurrences.
Investigation and Evidence Collection Underway
The Lucknow police have sealed the building in the Aliganj police station area where the fire broke out. Access to the site has been restricted as forensic and fire department teams are gathering evidence. A heavy police presence has been deployed to secure the area and assist in the investigation. An FIR has been filed under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 110, 105, 125, and 3(5), as well as sections 6 and 10 of the Uttar Pradesh Fire Service Act, naming six accused individuals and others deemed responsible.
Eyewitness Accounts of the Incident
Witnesses reported chaos among the people present when the fire erupted, with some attempting to escape through windows. One individual jumped from the building and sustained serious injuries. The cause of the fire remains undetermined, and investigations are ongoing.
