Patacharkuchi, Sept 30: The Assam government is set to recruit 130 veterinary doctors and 200 livestock field assistants to enhance veterinary services throughout the state, as announced by Nilima Devi, the Minister for Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Fisheries, and the guardian minister for Bajali district.
This announcement was made during a press interaction following a review meeting focused on the progress of various developmental initiatives and government scheme implementations in Bajali district. The meeting took place at the Bajali District Commissioner's office, chaired by DC Madhumita Bhagawati.
During the meeting, administrative and developmental challenges were discussed, along with an assessment of advancements in the animal husbandry and fisheries sectors. Key topics included infrastructure development, prompt resolution of public grievances, effective execution of welfare schemes, and the status of ongoing developmental projects.
According to the minister, the new appointments aim to make veterinary services more accessible to livestock farmers and enhance service delivery in rural regions.
Devi emphasized the government's commitment to boosting milk production and urged livestock farmers to transition from traditional methods to more scientific and commercial approaches in animal husbandry. She assured that the government is prepared to provide necessary support for farm-based cattle rearing.
Additionally, the minister announced the introduction of livestock insurance to safeguard farmers' financial interests and protect their animals. She also revealed plans to upgrade the infrastructure of veterinary hospitals that are currently in poor condition across various locations in the state, highlighting the government's priority to improve veterinary care.
Regarding the fisheries sector, Devi mentioned that beneficiary lists have been compiled to distribute fish seeds and feed to support fish farmers.
She pointed out that advancing the animal husbandry and fisheries sectors is crucial for bolstering the rural economy. The government is also focusing on involving unemployed youth in livestock and fisheries activities to promote self-reliance.
Following the review meeting, Nilima Devi and local MLA Dharmeswar Roy inaugurated a pilgrimage journey for devotees traveling from Bajali to the historic Somnath Temple in Gujarat.
