Commitment to Enhance Nepal-India Relations
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed a strong commitment to fortifying relations with Nepal during a meeting with Ravi Lamichhane, the president of the National Independent Party (RSP). The discussion, which included key figures such as External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, highlighted the importance of collaboration between the two nations. In a post on X, Modi welcomed Lamichhane's desire to work together for a shared and prosperous future, emphasizing Nepal's status as a priority partner under India's 'Neighbourhood First' policy. He expressed eagerness to cooperate with the new government to elevate the unique and multifaceted relationship between the two countries.
On Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah met with a delegation led by Lamichhane, reaffirming both parties' commitment to strengthening the special ties between India and Nepal. Shah congratulated Lamichhane on the RSP's electoral victory and extended India's best wishes for the success of the new government. According to a post from the Home Minister's office on X, both sides expressed a firm resolve to work together to enhance the special relationship between India and Nepal.
The RSP delegation, under Lamichhane's leadership, is visiting India at the invitation of Nitin Naveen, the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Naveen stated that there were 'meaningful discussions' regarding strengthening party-level relations between the BJP and the RSP of Nepal. This comment followed a meeting at the BJP headquarters where the delegation was warmly welcomed. Naveen expressed his pleasure in welcoming Lamichhane and his team, highlighting the initiative to know the BJP better.
He noted that discussions also covered the BJP's governance model under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which focuses on development and public service. The RSP delegation arrived in New Delhi on Monday for this visit. Vijay Chauthaiwale, in charge of the BJP's foreign affairs department, emphasized the historical and close ties between India and Nepal, rooted in shared civilizational heritage, cultural connections, and strong people-centric relationships.
