On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the strengthening partnership between India and Belgium, extending his congratulations to both Belgium and the Netherlands for their successful co-hosting of the FIH Men's and Women's Hockey World Cup last month. He remarked, "I offer my heartfelt congratulations for the splendid organization of this World Cup."

Official Visit of Belgium's Prime Minister

Belgium's Prime Minister Bart De Wever is currently on a three-day official visit to India, invited by PM Modi. Modi praised the athletes for their dedication and performance, stating, "Diamonds have historically connected India and Belgium. Today, we are evolving this historic relationship into a comprehensive partnership. I believe our discussions today will initiate a new chapter in our bilateral ties."

PM Modi reiterated India's support for efforts aimed at resolving conflicts and establishing peace, highlighting the shared commitment to combat terrorism in all its forms. Belgium's Achievements at the FIH Hockey World Cup

At the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup, co-hosted by Belgium and the Netherlands, Belgium's women's team clinched the bronze medal, while the men's team finished in seventh place. The Belgian women triumphed over Australia with a score of 1-0 on August 29, thanks to Ambre Ballenghien's decisive goal. Meanwhile, the men's team concluded the tournament in seventh place after defeating India in the classification match for seventh and eighth positions. Despite being one of the top-ranked teams and having previously won the FIH Pro League title, Belgium could not achieve a podium finish.
