Significant Engagements Between India and the US
New Delhi, Feb 5: On Thursday, the US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, expressed his enthusiasm regarding the recent interactions between the leadership of the two countries, indicating the US's willingness to enhance its relationship with New Delhi.
Gor shared images from External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar's meetings in Washington with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent.
"We are currently witnessing engagement at the highest levels. The United States is prepared to take this relationship to new heights. The potential is limitless!" he remarked.
During his visit to the US, EAM Jaishankar participated in the Critical Minerals Ministerial led by Marco Rubio on Wednesday, where he voiced India's commitment to fostering structured international collaboration to mitigate risks in critical mineral supply chains.
EAM Jaishankar held individual discussions with Rubio and Bessent, covering a broad spectrum of topics related to the India-US strategic and economic partnership.
In a post on X, EAM Jaishankar expressed his satisfaction after meeting Secretary Rubio, stating, "A comprehensive conversation that encompassed our bilateral cooperation agenda, as well as regional and global matters."
He noted that their discussions touched on various aspects of the India-US Strategic Partnership, including trade, energy, nuclear cooperation, defense, critical minerals, and technology.
The External Affairs Minister mentioned that both parties agreed to expedite follow-up engagements, stating, "We concurred on the prompt scheduling of various mechanisms to further our mutual interests."
As per a State Department summary, the two leaders deliberated on formalizing bilateral cooperation in critical minerals exploration, mining, and processing, which has become a crucial element of the India-US economic and strategic alliance.
This meeting coincided with the announcement of a trade agreement aimed at reducing barriers and enhancing market access between the two largest democracies in the world.
Both Secretary Rubio and EAM Jaishankar praised the agreement, emphasizing the significance of collaboration between the two democracies to unlock new economic prospects and promote shared energy security objectives.
The discussions also addressed the regional and multilateral aspects of their partnership. Rubio and EAM Jaishankar concluded their meeting by reaffirming their dedication to expanding both bilateral and multilateral cooperation through the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, recognizing the importance of a prosperous Indo-Pacific region in advancing their shared interests.
EAM Jaishankar also met with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in Washington, expressing his pleasure at the meeting in a separate post.
He characterized the discussions as fruitful, stating, "We had a constructive dialogue on the progression of the India-US economic partnership and strategic collaboration."
