Singapore, Aug 20: On Thursday, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong welcomed Indian ministers as they gathered for the fourth India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR). The discussions focused on enhancing bilateral relations, particularly in sectors such as advanced manufacturing, digital transformation, sustainability, and connectivity.
Among the Indian delegation were External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, and Minister of State for Electronics and IT Jitin Prasada, who are all present to engage in this significant ministerial meeting.
Wong expressed his enthusiasm on social media, sharing his pleasure in meeting with Sitharaman, Jaishankar, Goyal, and Prasada prior to the ISMR, which commenced on Thursday.
The leaders explored avenues for both nations to capitalize on the positive developments achieved through ISMR and to further advance the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, especially in the areas mentioned earlier.
Wong also highlighted that the talks included discussions on regional and global issues. He remarked, "Singapore and India have a long-standing and increasingly close partnership. I wish the ministers a productive visit and fruitful discussions at the ISMR."
A statement from the Singapore government noted that the ISMR serves as a vital ministerial platform for both countries to foster cooperation in new and emerging fields.
The fourth ISMR aims to assess the outcomes from the previous meeting held in New Delhi in August 2025 and to pinpoint new opportunities for advancing the Singapore-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Roadmap, as stated by the ministries of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Industry in a joint announcement.
Leading the Indian delegation is Sitharaman, while Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry, Gan Kim Yong, heads the Singaporean side at this roundtable.
The Singaporean delegation comprises Home Affairs Minister K. Shanmugam, Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, Digital Development and Information Minister Josephine Teo, and Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Finance Jeffrey Siow.
Established in 2022, the ISMR is a crucial forum for discussions aimed at enhancing economic and strategic collaboration between the two nations.
The inaugural ISMR took place in New Delhi in September 2022, followed by a second meeting in Singapore in August 2024, and the third meeting was held in New Delhi in August of the previous year.
