Enhancing Cooperation Between India and Indonesia
On Sunday, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar hosted his Indonesian counterpart, Retno Marsudi, to discuss ways to enhance collaboration in various sectors including defense, maritime trade, investment, pharmaceuticals, and food security. Indonesia stands as a vital partner for India in the Southeast Asia region, with both nations witnessing a steady increase in trade and investment, reflecting the strengthening of their overall relationship. Marsudi is currently on a three-day visit to New Delhi.
During the inaugural address at the eighth meeting of the India-Indonesia Joint Commission, Jaishankar expressed his delight in welcoming Marsudi and her delegation to New Delhi. He also recalled the meaningful discussions held between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indonesian President Joko Widodo during the latter's visit to India last January.
Jaishankar noted that that visit had revitalized the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations. Both sides engaged in extensive discussions covering key areas of bilateral cooperation, including political relations, defense and security, maritime trade and investment, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and food security. Marsudi echoed Jaishankar's sentiments, stating that President Widodo's visit last year played a crucial role in steering the India-Indonesia partnership in a new direction.
