India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar recently celebrated the enduring relationship between India and Jamaica, emphasizing their shared history and cultural connections. During a visit to Sabina Park, he dedicated a new electronic scoreboard, symbolizing the growing partnership between the two nations. Jaishankar also visited Old Harbour, the historic landing site of the first Indian arrivals in Jamaica, where he engaged with the Indian diaspora and praised their efforts to maintain their cultural heritage. This visit underscores the importance of friendship and collaboration between India and Jamaica.
 

Deep Connections Between India and Jamaica

S. Jaishankar, India's External Affairs Minister, emphasized the strong historical connections between India and Jamaica, characterizing their relationship as one founded on mutual respect and friendship. In a recent post on X, he stated, "The India-Jamaica narrative is crafted in runs, respect, and camaraderie," highlighting the cultural and sporting ties that unite the two nations. This statement came during his attendance at an event at Sabina Park, where he collaborated with Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness to officially inaugurate a new electronic scoreboard donated by India. Jaishankar expressed optimism that this scoreboard would witness numerous unforgettable cricketing moments in the future, symbolizing the expanding partnership between the two countries.


Jaishankar remarked, 'The India-Jamaica narrative is crafted in runs, respect, and camaraderie.' He joined Prime Minister @AndrewHolnessJM in the formal dedication of the electronic scoreboard at Sabina Park, a gift from India. 'May this scoreboard count many great innings to come. Among them…'


On a lighter note, the External Affairs Minister noted the absence of West Indies cricket legend Chris Gayle at the event, acknowledging the iconic player's connection to the historic venue.


He concluded with a light-hearted mention, 'Joined Prime Minister @AndrewHolnessJM in formally dedicating the electronic scoreboard at Sabina Park, gifted by India. May this scoreboard count many great innings to come. Among them, that of - friendship. PS: Chris @henrygayle was missed.'


Sabina Park, situated in Kingston, is renowned as one of the most significant cricket grounds in the Caribbean, having hosted numerous historic matches featuring both West Indies and international teams.


Connecting with Indian Heritage

Earlier, on Sunday (local time), Jaishankar visited Old Harbour in Jamaica, the historic landing site of the first Indian immigrants to the Caribbean over 180 years ago.


In a post on X, he described this visit as a chance to engage with the Indian diaspora and recognize their lasting cultural impact in Jamaica. 'Glad to visit Old Harbour, the historic site where the first Indians arrived in Jamaica over 180 years ago,' he remarked.


He shared his experiences interacting with members of the Indian-origin community, commending their dedication to preserving their heritage through generations. 'Interacted with members of the Indian diaspora, witnessing how they have preserved their culture, traditions, and identity,' he noted.
