With a focus on discipline, leadership, and holistic development through sports, the state-level Kho-Kho competition for boys and girls commenced at DAV Public School, Dadour, on Friday. Cabinet Minister Rajesh Dharmani inaugurated the event, motivating young athletes to engage in sports with confidence and a competitive spirit.

Participation and Competition Details

The tournament features 40 teams from eight clusters throughout Himachal Pradesh, with approximately 453 participants competing across various age groups. This event provides a significant platform for young athletes to display their talents at the state level.

Minister's Address and Encouragement

Minister Dharmani, who oversees Town and Country Planning, Housing, Technical Education, Vocational and Industrial Training, officially opened the competition by raising the flag and lighting a ceremonial lamp. He emphasized the crucial role of sports in fostering discipline, leadership, teamwork, and self-confidence among students. He encouraged participants to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship, focusing on their performance rather than solely on winning or losing.

Government Support for Sports Development

The minister highlighted the government's ongoing efforts to enhance facilities and opportunities for youth in sports. He noted that state-level competitions held in rural areas serve as vital platforms for local talent to showcase their skills and gain exposure.

Encouraging Holistic Development

Dharmani stressed the importance of encouraging every child to engage in sports, channeling their energy positively. He also pointed out the need for students to have opportunities beyond academics, including cultural activities, NSS, NCC, debates, and science fairs, which contribute to their overall development.

Acknowledgments and Participation

The minister praised the DAV institution for its contributions to education and urged students to actively participate in co-curricular and sports activities. Sanjeev Guleria, Chairman of the Agriculture Produce Market Committee, was present as a special guest, extending his best wishes to all teams and players.

Event Highlights

Earlier, Principal Prashant Sharma of DAV Public School welcomed the chief guest and dignitaries, providing insights into the school's various initiatives. The inaugural ceremony also saw participation from Sonika Dharmani, the minister's wife; Shashi Sharma, Vice-Chairman of the Himachal Pradesh Water Management Board; SDM Balh Smritika Negi; LMC member Lokesh Kapoor; PTA President Vinay Dhiman; parent representative and LMC member Jitender Sharma, along with school management, teachers, sports coaches, students, and other dignitaries.

The tournament has created an energetic sporting environment at the DAV Public School campus, with teams from across the state competing for accolades while promoting the values of discipline, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship.
