Stabbing Incident at New York's Penn Station Leaves Five Injured
Incident Overview
A stabbing incident at Penn Station in New York City on Sunday evening resulted in five individuals being injured. The suspect, a 51-year-old man named Hector Deleon, was apprehended shortly after the event, which took place around 7:00 PM in the New Jersey Transit boarding area. Reports indicate that the victims, all male and aged between 30 and 60, were likely bystanders caught in the attack.
Authorities have suggested that Deleon, who is reportedly homeless, had a prior arrest in New Jersey in May related to assault and drug charges, although further details on that case are not currently available. Investigators believe the stabbings were random and executed with a knife. As of now, there is no information regarding the condition of the victims.
This incident occurred just a day before US President Donald Trump is scheduled to attend Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden, which is in close proximity to Penn Station. Commuters expressed their concerns about safety following the attack. Sanai Rashid, a 21-year-old, remarked on the lack of safety in the area, especially during busy times like the NBA Finals. She stated, "It's been a bit of a messy summer in general. I think crime does go up as well, but I do think there probably should be more security in Penn Station, but that's devastating."
Another commuter, Marina Berger, a 21-year-old advertising intern from New Jersey, voiced her worries about traveling alone, saying, "It's definitely very upsetting to hear, especially as a young woman who's just recently going to have to commute to the city pretty often, and I definitely think there should be better security measures put in place." Emma, a 30-year-old dental hygienist, expressed her concerns about using public transport with her seven-year-old son, stating, "It freaks you out, it makes you wonder if you should even be using the subway with your kids."
