In a remarkable display of sportsmanship, Sri Lanka's javelin throw sensation Rumesh Pathirage exchanged jerseys with Indian athlete Rohit Yadav after their event at the Asian Games. While Indian javelin throwers Yashvir Singh and Rohit Yadav stepped up to fill the shoes of the celebrated Neeraj Chopra, it was Rumesh who clinched the gold with an impressive throw of 88.55 meters, adding to his Commonwealth Games victory where he narrowly outperformed Chopra.

Indians Achieve Podium Success

During the Asian Games javelin final, Yashvir Singh achieved a personal best of 85.72 meters in his final throw, securing the silver medal. Rohit Yadav followed closely, earning the bronze with a best throw of 84.35 meters. His attempts included an opening throw of 77.25 meters, which he improved to 82.40 meters in the second round, and finally 84.35 meters in the third. Although he fouled on his last attempt, his earlier throw was sufficient for a podium finish.

Rumesh Pathirage: A Rising Star

Rumesh Pathirage took to Instagram to share a moment with Rohit, captioning a photo of their jersey swap with, "With the Indian javelin champion Rohit." Dominating the javelin scene, Rumesh has won 13 out of 14 competitions this season, including a season-best throw of 92.62 meters at the Rome Diamond League on June 4, 2026. His victories at both the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games have solidified his status as a formidable competitor in javelin, following in the footsteps of Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra and current Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem from Pakistan.
