Indian table tennis sensation Sreeja Akula is once again making headlines on the global stage. The 26-year-old athlete has advanced to the finals of the WTT Contender Lagos 2025, showcasing her talent with a remarkable victory over the tournament's top seed, Prithika Pavade from France, with a score of 3-2.
Impressive Performance in Lagos
Following her stunning win against Hayata, Sreeja continued her impressive streak on Friday, achieving two more significant victories. In the round of 16, she faced Italian player Debora Vivarelli. Despite dropping the first game 9-11, she rebounded to win the next three games with scores of 11-9, 11-3, and 11-1.
In the quarterfinals, Sreeja dominated her match against Portugal’s Jieni Shao, winning in straight games with scores of 11-7, 11-7, and 11-7, securing her spot in the finals.
Success at Commonwealth Games 2022
Sreeja Akula is no stranger to high-pressure situations. She was a key member of India’s table tennis team at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, where she earned a gold medal in the mixed doubles category. Her outstanding performance garnered her national acclaim.

The WTT Contender Lagos has been a fruitful tournament for Indian players. In the men’s doubles category, the duo of G. Sathiyan and Akash Pal has reached the finals, where they will compete against France’s Leo de Nodrest and Jules Rolland.
However, both Sathiyan and Pal faced elimination in their respective men’s singles matches against the same French players. Pal lost to de Nodrest in four games, while Sathiyan was defeated by Rolland in straight sets.
In mixed doubles, Akash Pal partnered with Poymantee Baisya, reaching the finals but finishing as runners-up after a 1-3 loss to Rolland and Pavade.
