Political Uncertainty in Karnataka

Despite Congress dismissing rumors of a leadership change in Karnataka and labeling a recent party meeting in Delhi as routine, speculation surrounding Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's resignation is intensifying. Adding fuel to the fire, his predecessor and BJP leader Basavaraj Bommai claimed on Wednesday that Siddaramaiah is trapped in a compromise and accused him of manipulating his way to a promotion.

In an interview, Bommai stated that Siddaramaiah has made deals that raise doubts about Congress's integrity regarding the leadership crisis in Karnataka. Before Siddaramaiah, Bommai served as the Chief Minister when the BJP was in power in the southern state, taking over from BS Yediyurappa in 2021 and resigning after the BJP lost to Congress in the 2023 assembly elections.

When questioned about any divisions in Karnataka's leadership, Bommai asserted that Congress has never been truthful with the public. He expressed skepticism about a smooth transfer of power, suggesting that if it were to happen, it would not be seamless. On Tuesday, senior Congress leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge and KC Venugopal, met with Siddaramaiah and his deputy DK Shivakumar in Delhi, further fueling rumors of the Chief Minister's imminent resignation. However, Venugopal later clarified to the media that the meeting was solely focused on the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.

Responding to this statement, Bommai questioned why discussions about Rajya Sabha seats would take 7-8 hours. He pointed out that many ministers and legislators were in Delhi, implying their presence was not coincidental. The BJP leader also expressed doubts about a smooth transition of power in Karnataka.
