Fast-Bowling Camp Led by Zaheer Khan Wraps Up

New Delhi, March 2: As the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup draws near, plans for specialized training camps at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru are coming to fruition. According to sources familiar with the situation, a fast-bowling camp, overseen by former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan, is set to conclude today.

"The selected fast bowlers, who have shown promise in the India A and U19 teams and performed well at the state level, have been training under Zaheer's guidance for the past three days. This initiative aims to support players already in contention for national selection,” the sources revealed.

It is important to note that the CoE has been without a permanent fast-bowling coach since Troy Cooley's tenure ended in December 2025, coinciding with his retirement age of 60. In contrast, the spin bowling department is currently led by former Indian spinner and selector Sunil Joshi, who joined the CoE in October.

The BCCI had called for applications for the fast-bowling coach position on February 9, and it is anticipated that the appointment of Cooley's successor will take one to two months. Regarding Harbhajan Singh's potential camp for emerging off-spinners, the specific dates and duration are yet to be confirmed, but it is expected to occur later this month, ahead of the IPL 2026.

"Yes, Harbhajan has been approached by VVS Laxman, the head of cricket at CoE, to conduct a camp for off-spinners. If everything proceeds smoothly, it could take place later this month," added another source.

The BCCI is also in the process of filling other significant vacancies, including the Head of Sports Science and Medicine, along with various coaching positions, which is expected to take one to two months as well.
