Special Trains Announced for Christmas and New Year Travel in Northeast India

Northeast Frontier Railway Introduces Festive Train Services

Guwahati: In a bid to accommodate the festive travel needs, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has announced the operation of three pairs of special trains for the Christmas and New Year period of 2026, as confirmed by officials on Sunday.

According to Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of NFR, the special services will include routes from Guwahati to Sairang (Mizoram), Dibrugarh to Lucknow and back, as well as New Delhi to Kamakhya and return, enhancing travel options for passengers during this busy season.

The Guwahati-Sairang-Guwahati Christmas special will operate two trips in each direction, with departures scheduled from Guwahati on December 22 and 24, 2025.

For the return journey, the Sairang-Guwahati special will leave Sairang on December 23 and 25, 2025.

These trains will feature a mix of accommodations, including two AC 3-Tier coaches, two General Second Class coaches, eight Sleeper class coaches, and two General second luggage-cum-brake van coaches, ensuring ample seating for travelers.

Sharma also mentioned that passengers can find detailed information regarding train stoppages and timings on the IRCTC website, as well as through various newspapers and social media channels of the Northeast Frontier Railway.

Travelers are encouraged to check these details prior to their journey.

In addition to the new train services, the NFR has made significant improvements to passenger facilities at Guwahati Railway Station. The retiring rooms and dormitory have been upgraded to provide world-class amenities.

Located on the first floor of the station, the Retiring Room complex now offers an enhanced experience for travelers, featuring nine retiring rooms—seven with two beds and two with five beds—along with a 12-bedded dormitory.

As part of the renovation, all rooms have been upgraded to fully air-conditioned units, furnished with more comfortable beds and modern interiors, ensuring a hygienic and convenient environment for passengers during their transit.
